Privacy at Peat Finder
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Peat Finder is a small, independent site that lists deals on peated Scotch whisky. We collect as little about you as we can. This notice explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Who runs Peat Finder
Peat Finder is run by Sopio (Sophie) Kharchilava, in Tbilisi, Georgia (see About us). Questions about your data: [email protected].
What we collect, and why
1. Browsing the site
- We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t ask you to create an account.
- Your market choice. When you tap the “Shops in” switch or one of the UK / EU or US buttons, or open a UK / EU or US deals page, your browser remembers your choice on your own device so the right deals show next time. It isn’t sent to us. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.
- Visitor statistics. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or identify you. We only see totals, such as how many people visited a page and which site they came from.
- Server logs. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes technical data (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.
2. The newsletter
- If you sign up, we store your email address, whether you chose UK / EU or US deals, and your confirmation that you are of legal drinking age where you live.
- We use this only to send you the weekly Peat Finder email. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by signing up and confirming your email address.
- Our email provider, Kit (ConvertKit), stores this data for us. Kit may record whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. We use that only as overall numbers, to see what readers find useful.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link. Once you unsubscribe, you stop receiving the newsletter. You can ask us to delete your details completely at any time.
3. Sending us a tip
- Spotted a deal we missed, a wrong price or a shop we should check? Email it to [email protected]. We use your tip only to check it, and keep your email as described under “Emailing us” below.
4. Emailing us
- If you email us, we keep your message and email address only as long as we need to answer it, and no longer than 12 months.
Shop links and affiliate cookies
Affiliate disclosure: Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the shop may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes which shop we link: we always link the best price we found from shops that pass our checks. Please check price, stock and delivery on the shop’s site before you order.
When you click an affiliate link, you leave our site, and the shop or its affiliate network may set its own cookies so it can tell the shop the visit came from us. Those cookies are covered by the shop’s or network’s own privacy policy, not ours. We never receive your name, address or payment details from any shop.
Who we share data with
We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it for advertising. We share data only with the services that run the site for us:
- Cloudflare (hosting, security, statistics and our email address)
- Kit / ConvertKit (the newsletter)
These companies process data on our behalf and may store it outside your country, including in the United States. Where UK or EU law requires it, they protect such transfers with standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the UK or EU, or under Georgian law), you can ask us to:
- show you the personal data we hold about you
- correct it
- delete it
- stop using it, or object to how we use it
- give you a copy in a common format
You can also withdraw your consent at any time. Unsubscribing from the newsletter is one way to do that.
Email [email protected] and we’ll reply within one month. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to your data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK, the authority in your EU country, or Georgia’s Personal Data Protection Service.
Age
Peat Finder is about alcohol and is meant for adults of legal drinking age (18+ in the UK and EU, 21+ in the US). We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this notice, we’ll update the date at the top. We’ll mention any big change in the newsletter.
